Kelly O tagged me to list my five favorite restaurants. Unlike the last time she tagged me, I promise not to go crazy and list my top 50.
So: Here are the rules to this here meme:
-- Link to the person who tagged you. See above.
--Include the state and country you live in. That would be the capital of the free world, baby! (I really don't know why I said that like that, don't mind me.)
--List your top five favorite local restaurants.
Pizzeria Paradiso: I've never been to Italy, so I can't say their pizza is authentic, but it tastes like what I think Italian pizza must be like. And their Alici salad (with olives and anchovies) is yummy, as is their tirami su.
Montmartre: The food is frahnsh, as are most of the waiters (one of them pronounced Quiche Lorraine so authentically that my dinner companion couldn't tell what he was saying; when I repeated it with the American pronunciation, the waiter visibly winced). The menu is not extensive, but everything on it is yummy. And the whole front of the restaurant is a window, which makes me happy when I eat there.
701: Pricey, but *classy* (not pretentious or snooty: classy. It's definitely and upscale place, but I've wandered in there in cut-offs and flip-flops, and Mo the bartender just smiles and mixes a *fine* Manhattan).
Pita something-or-other: I am achamed that I can't remember the name but they are in Cameron Street in Alexandria and they have killer baba ganoush. The tabouleh's not bad, either.
Burma: Burmese food is kinda like Thai, I guess, but then kinda not. This place has a shrimp salad that is so, so good -- chopped up shrimp, marinated with chiles and something acidic (and maybe some kind of fish sauce?), on top of chopped cabbage and carrots.
--Tag five other people and let them know they've been tagged.
I'm gonna break the rules here: instead of tagging five other people, I'm gonna give you RM's top 5 as a bonus:
Benihana's: Every course is delicious.
The Cheesecake Factory: The variety. [Mind you, he orders the EXACT SAME THING every time!]
Matchbox: It's got a coolness factor to it.
Booeymongers: Nostalgia (and a little bit of variety)
Chadwicks: Cheeseburger (and a little bit of nostalgia)
