Two fun links nabbed via Todd-o:
Bet on how long Ted Haggard stays straight! (possibly NSFW)
See if your site can be accessed from China.
I haven't posted lately about books I've read or movies I've seen, because there was a serious movie drought, and because I bought a crossword puzzle book that consumed all the time I usually spend reading (= Metro every morning and evening).
But! I relocated the crossword puzzle book to my bedside and stuck a novel in my backpack, with the happy result that I've read Terry Pratchett's The Color of Magic and Elizabeth Peters' The Murders of Richard III
I *wanted* to like the Pratchett book, partly because J (who is not on LJ) recommended it, and partly because he's written a ton of books I could dive into, but it just didn't grab me. It was funny, but Discworld just seems so *arbitrary* (which I realize is part of the point ... one of the characters even complains about how arbitrary it all is), and that made it hard for me to get invested in the world and the characters. Also, the punning reminded me a bit of ... what's his name ... the Crewel Lye guy ... Piers Anthony!
The Peters book was her usual. it was fine and enjoyable, and if it owed a bit too much to Josephine Tey's The Daughters of Time, well, Peters knows that and name-checked Tey, so that was fine.
RM and I will probably see 300 sometime in the next couple days, so I hope to post something about that, and if The Namesake ever comes to a theater near me, I would like to see that as well. I've really liked Kal Penn, even when he's been in movies you wouldn't think I'd like (um, Van Wilder 2: The Rise of Taj?).
