The other night RM was watching King Kong (the new, Peter-Jackson-directed version), and I watched a bit of the beginning, but then I had to go upstairs, and when I passed through the room a little later I put my fingers in my ears and La-La'd like Ashley Simpson.

Full props to Peter Jackson for the LOTR trilogy, but WHY did he feel the need to remake King Kong? It's just so fucking tragic -- in every single version, they make you feel sorry for the ape and then he DIES. (And no, I'm not going to use a spoiler cut for that, it's had the same ending since 1933.) I just can't watch it.

Of course, lately I am so soft-hearted, even the drama of Mark Trail has been too much for me (Oh no! The pet bear is lost in the woods! And there are hunters! And just when you think she's safe, the little otter is being menaced by a lynx! And then when he swims away he steps in a trap!) Even knowing the imperiled-animal-of-the-month will almost certainly survive (*unlike* King Kong), I still find it nerve-wracking.

There really isn't any point to this post. I just felt the need to whine a bit.

P.S. I actually am not that blown away by Gwen Stefani's new single, but I *love* that she uses "The Lonely Goatherd." It's like she's saying no one is too cool to like The Sound of Music.
