By popular demand (OK, that's a major exaggeration), here is the scoop on

Mark and Molly's Nuptial Festivities

We're getting married Saturday, May 1, at Sewall-Belmont House.
Sewall-Belmont is one of the older buildings in DC -- it was damaged in the War of 1812 -- and in the early 20th century Alice Paul, an activist for women's suffrage, bought the house to serve as a headquarters for the National Women's Party. It's a couple blocks from the U.S. Capitol, a few blocks from Union Station, and just four blocks from the house Molly grew up in.

A Senate parking lot around the corner from Sewall-Belmont (between 1st and 2nd and C and D) offers free parking on weekend evenings.

The wedding officially begins at 8 pm; that's when the bar will open, and that's when servers will start circulating with hors d'oeuvres. The ceremony itself will start sometime between 8:30 and 9, and once the ceremony's over, the buffet stations will open up, and everyone can hang and eat and drink and dance for the rest of the evening. (If it helps, don't think of it as a wedding; think of it as a big party, in the middle of which Mark and Molly will get married. )

In additional to the traditional exchange of rings, we'll also have a handfasting, a traditional Celtic wedding ritual. If I get my act together I'll come back and add a link to some information about handfasting.

We have several rooms reserved at the Holiday Inn on Capitol Hill, 800-638-1116, $119/night. If you're looking around online for hotels in DC, I will caution you against any of the hotels on New York Avenue NE; they are inexpensive, but in a really grungy neighborhood with no Metro access.

We are registered four places; it's probably easiest to look us up under Mark's last name, Habermehl:

NEW! Target

Linens and Things (Lots left in this registry.)

Amazon.com

Crate and Barrel (This registry is almost exhausted.)

Our registry choices may strike some folks as a bit unorthodox (OK, more than a bit unorthodox), but they're all items that will make us think fondly of people who give them to us.

Fair warning: A lot of this info is more than a casual LJ reader really wants; I'm gonna share the URL with folks from out of town who need info about the wedding.
