Molly_o: Is anything on tonight?
RoboMark:Nah.
M: It's Tuesday, isn't it? What about reruns of Veronica Mars?
RM: That's on Wednesdays now.
M: I wonder if they're changing it to Wednesdays? I wondered if they've figured out the same people like Veronica Mars and House?
RM: They never figure out that shit.
M: [silenced by that self-evident truth]

In other media, RoboMark and I are waiting impatiently for A Feast for Crows, the fourth book of George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire. By impatiently, I mean that it was supposed to come out in August 2005, and RM called me at work yesterday morning so we could figure out which of us would go to the bookstore at lunch to buy it. It's not camping out for HBP, but it's more than we'd do for any other author.

Except George R.R. Martin is too busy watching Empire to finish writing the darn book. RM is tiding himself over by exploring every nook and cranny of the Web site (= how I know George is watching Empire). It's a weirdly amateurish Website (halfassed yet enthusiastic), and among its treasures are T-shirts of the various noble houses. A couple of them are pretty cool -- the Stark one is appropriate, and the Greyjoy kraken is more beautiful than I expected when RM said "it's got a squid on it," but the Lannister one has got to go -- it's a lion (rampant? maybe? I know diddly about heraldry), and the motto is "Hear me roar," which -- is there anyone out there who *doesn't* think of Helen Reddy?

Oh, and I almost forgot, we saw The Island, which I quite enjoyed, despite the shaky-camera car chases (oh, my aching head). It was *funny* -- much more so than I expected, and very much by intention. And the cast was uniformly good -- Ewan! and Scarlett Johanssen! and Djimon Hounsou! and Scarlett Johanssen's upper lip! and Steve Buscemi! and Sean Bean! and Ethan Phillips! and Sean Bean's shaky-with-adrenaline hands! and last, but certainly not least, Scarlett Johanssen's bottom lip! There were parts that made me seriously, fist-clenchingly furious and disgusted with a futuristic society that doesn't exist, and also parts where I thought a lot about the value of human lives, and also parts where I thought "mmmm, pretty!"
