The other morning I came down and let the cats out and went to take my shower. Half an hour later, I found a dead baby bird in the hall. None of the three cats was around to take credit, so I put the corpse outside under the rose bush and went about my day.
Well, *I* may not know which cat killed that bird, but Mama and Papa Bird certainly know. Every time my orange tomcat goes outside, a bird perches on the back fence and periodically swoops down and nips at the cat's back. At first I thought they were protecting a nest, but I can't find the nest anywhere, so now I suspect it's retribution. The cat does his best to ignore them -- he's really pretty wimpy, he's the omega-cat -- but has been reduced to sitting underneath the porch chairs or our parked car.
