I had this weird epiphany the other day:
I read this article in the Post about Snoop Dogg (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A52806-2005Jan31.html). It's a humor piece suggesting that America is a very forgiving nation because Snoop remains an admired figured despite being "an ex-con, a former crack dealer and murder defendant, a pornographer and a foulmouthed dope fiend who advocates beating women" currently facing rape charges. And I read this, and I thought, "Wow, he really does sound awful!"
Except the thing is, I *like* Snoop. I liked how funny and self-deprecating he was in the video for "Beautiful," with Pharrell; I liked his comic timing in the Starsky and Hutch movie; and I liked him at the VMAs (I think; some award show, at any rate) when he congratulated Adam Sandler on his recent marriage with a "mazzle-tizzle." For some reason he seems like a good guy, a trustworthy guy, empirical data notwithstanding.
So I was pondering this paradox, and I had a sense of deja vu. It seemed very familiar, this dilemma of "I *know* he's a bad guy but I just can't believe it." And then I figured it out: Spike!
Also, I am so loving House. "In Swedish, 'friend' means 'limping twerp.' " Heh.
