OK, the final tally:
* a Roomba!! this is like one of those pool vacuums that creeps around on its own, except it's for your house! I hate vacuuming, but with three cats it's imperative; I'd been wishing for ages that someone would invent one of these, and now they have, and I HAVE ONE! Yay! (CGU says I'm the only woman he knows who actually wants appliances for xmas. Yeah, what of it?)
* poofy fake fur leopard-print hat and gloves. Mmmmmmm.
* the Firefly DVDs!!
* a very cool ceramic platter (I don't know how it's made, it has metal borders within the design, so maybe it's some variation on cloissone?) with three women on it.
* Neal Stephenson's newest book, Quicksilver. I *love* Neal Stephenson, I'm very psyched for this book.
* a leopard-print bath rug and soapdish (which will coordinate nicely with the leopard-print towels and mirror in my downstairs bathroom)
* papaya exfoliant, bath gel, and body butter from The Body Shop. Oh, the jokes that were made about the Body Butter. (My family is sick and twisted.)
* the White Stripes' CD. They are weird and I heart them.
* a pile of dish towels and an oven mitt from Williams-Sonoma
* A guide to home improvement project written by Ty, the hot carpenter from Trading Spaces. Yummmmm.
* a bread board and two little cheese knives, and last but not least ...
* my engagement ring! I don't know why, I don't like to think I'm totally hung up on objects or anything, but it was really important to me that CGU get me a ring. And he did, a lovely white gold one with an emerald (my birthstone) and an untraditional, asymmetrical setting.
And then this morning, just after I'd finished rinsing my hair in the tub, I realized it was MISSING!! I was absolutely convinced I had rinsed it down the drain, and I was FREAKING OUT. I dreaded telling CGU, first I spent like 15 minutes in a slowly building panic looking for it EVERYWHERE, and I finally told him and he was great, he was all calm and reassuring, he helped me look in a bunch of places I hadn't thought of and he took the pipe out from under the sink to see if it was in there, and it wasn't, and I turned into a sobbing pile of mush ("But it was my RING, and you got me it, and I LOST it ...") and he was a ROCK.
And then while he was replacing the pipe I went to look in the laundry I'd been sorting before I took a shower, and I turned over the basket and heard a clink and THERE IT WAS! I was practically beyond words, I was so relieved. And I promptly wrapped a whole bunch of tape around the band. It's not coming off my finger again without cutting tools.
