So, CGU is a fan of those cheezy "lad" magazines (really, that's the magazine industry term) like Maxim and Stuff and FHM. And while I am in many respects a pretty staunch feminist, I just can't bring myself to get worked up about his consumption of these magazines. I could give you all kinds of rhetoric about being a pro-sex feminist or whatever, but it basically comes down to this: the guy elbows me awake in a motel room outside Boston because, flipping channels, he's found Callum Keith Rennie romancing some woman on a ranch*. And I figure, if he's gonna actively facilitate my drooling over a relatively obscure Canadian actor, the least I can do is support his interest in massively airbrushed photos of Paris Hilton. (Though I confess I'm not above pointing out the extent to which these photos have been airbrushed.)
*That would be "Bliss," which was advertised during production as erotic romance for women but didn't do a whole heck of a lot for me. I couldn't quite figure out what was going on, but I remember when it first aired there were many scathing reviews on the Asylum yahoo list. And I think Kat Allison had a really funny rant about cows, but I can't remember now what she said.
