I loved, loved, LOVED Robin Hobb's live ship trilogy. I found it a wonderful adventure saga, complete with pirates and dragons, that oh by the way offered an awesome critique of patriarchy.
So I was super excited to see a new novel in that setting, Dragon Keeper -- and mighty disappointed that it turned out to be a pale imitation of her earlier novels.
The characters aren't as nuanced, the pieces of the story don't fit together as skilfully, and one of the main storylines seems to be nothing more than gratuitous homophobia.
