We caved and saw it: "Music and Lyrics" (or, as I like to call it, "The Andrew Ridgeley Story").

I am sad to report that the video for "Pop! Goes My Heart" is probably the most brilliant part of the movie. But it's not a *bad* movie. Lucid Nina (who is not on LJ) observes that the first two-thirds are stronger than the last third, and I agree. Hugh Grant is really good -- he finds a weird nobility in Alex Fletcher's cheerful acceptance of his has-been status. Also, he gets all the funny lines. I don't think Drew Barrymore does quite as good a job with Sophie, but then I don't think she has as much to work with. I wasn't totally sold on the romance between the two of them, but they played it well.

Oh, and RM says I owe him -- big time -- for seeing it with me.

Even if you don't want to see the movie, you still ought to check out the video on YouTube.
