My back yard is completely paved over. Until I find the time to rent a jackhammer and remedy this, the only plantable area is a 2-by-8-foot rectangle of earth with a rosebush in the middle. There I planted:
-- 3 of something whose name I can't recall, a perennial with grey-green stems and pinkish flowers that likes full sun, in the ground
-- 3 red geraniums in a window box, because it reminds me of France
-- 6 pink petunias, two each in two hanging planters, and two in the ground
My front yard is mostly taken up by the porch and the walk, but there's a 10-by-10 foot plantable area that already has two largish azaleas and a couple chrysanthemums. There I planted:
-- 6 phlox (phloxes?), 3 pink and 3 blue, along the front edge of the yard, where I hope they will expand and hang over the edge of the low wall there
-- 8 pink impatiens in window boxes along the porch rail
-- 10 pink impatiens scattered around the yard
I also pulled up two garbage bags' full of weeds from the front and back.
I am sore, but very satisfied with my labor.
