Seven Random Things

1. The release of the Star Wars movies typically has coincided with my birthday (third week of May). I saw Empire on my 12th birthday and stood in line to see Return on my 15th. When Lucas finally got around to making Phantom, I slept out on the sidewalk for tickets to see it on my 31st birthday.
2. I love slimy foods that most people hate (eggplant, okra, raw shellfish), but the foods I do hate (carrots, orange juice, and vanilla ice cream) are widely considered unobjectionable.
3. I have so-so luck with plants in the ground, and a knack for killing plants in pots.
4. One time when I was maybe 11, I took a pair of grasshoppers with me on a two-week vacation from DC to South Carolina and back. When we got back, I figured they had earned their freedom and released them in the backyard.
5. In 1991 I saw Sisters of Mercy & Public Enemy at the DAR's Constitution Hall. No one in PE mentioned anything about the fact they were performing on the stage where Marian Anderson had not been allowed to sing, but I remember Andrew Eldridge making a drawling comment about "the daughters of the American revol-yoo-tion."
6. I have a tattoo in Hebrew (which I can't actually read or speak).
7. I love bourbon.
