Saw Hostage tonight (or "Os-TAHJ," as Bruce Willis pronounced it on Conan last week). It wasn't incredibly well thought out, but the psycho guy was v.v. scary, and the little boy was smart and plucky and adorable (and I am a sucker for resourceful kids). But probably I most enjoyed the previews. )

Other observations:

** CGU came home from Borders with a pile of D&D books he felt compelled to purchase, and one of them -- the "Book of Vile Darkness" -- comes with a warning label. WTF?

** If Elizabeth Moon is heroin, then David Weber is methadone. The Honor Harrington novels take the edge off my cravings, but they can't give me the same high.

** I made banana bread today, using bananas I'd been keeping in the freezer, and discovered, to my disgust, that frozen bananas look startlingly like something that's behind a cut b/c it's kinda gross, and I can just imagine y'all reading it and spewing on the keyboard and then vengefully putting my LJ behind a filter. )

So, this article: http://www.newyorker.com/talk/content/articles/050328ta_talk_paumgarten explains about something called "popstrology," which is one man's (tongue-in-cheek) theory that the song at the top of the charts the week of your birth is a key to understanding your personality.

And this site: http://www.alaskajim.com/charts/weeklysingles/weeklysingles.htm contains links to a number of archived weekly singles charts so you can see for yourself what your popsign is.

I checked myself out, and songs that topped the charts the week of my birth include "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly," recorded by Hugo Montenegro; "Honey," by Bobby Goldsboro; and "Love is All Around," by the Troggs."Tighten Up," by Archie Bell and the Drells, appears at the top of more than one chart, as does "This Guy's in Love With You," by Herb Alpert.

But the clear winner? "Mrs. Robinson," by Simon and Garfunkel. Make of that what you will ...
