Just got back from a week in Colorado visiting my in-laws-to-be (CGU's brother and sister-in-law). I was kinda nervous, but I think it went really well. His sister-in-law is super nice, and his nieces (6-year-old twins) are cute and funny. Also, it seems like he and I travel together well, which I take as a very positive sign. (I mean, I know I'm marrying the guy, but I'm still checking us out now and then for auspicious or [whatever the antonym for auspicious is] signs.)
Came across a couple good links:
www.innergeek.us/geek.html is a zillion-question test that rates your geekiness. I wouldn't say it's perfect -- I came through as less than 30% percent geek, and I'm pretty sure I'm geekier than that -- but it's fun to do, and if you're anxious about your geekiness, I suppose it could be reassuring.
www.furiesfire.com/quiz/ has a short quiz that compares you with a number of poets. I forget who I am -- a bit Whitman, a bit Angelou, and a bit somebody else, I think. Someone on a list on which I lurk came out as Dorothy Parker, which I think is so cool, but realistically I'm not that cynical.
Finally, www.chicagotribune.com/news/showcase/chi-0306120068jun12.story is the Chicago Tribune's list of the 50 best magazines. It's an interesting list, I think, way postmodern in its diversity.
In other news, I've learned that my cholesterol is a hair short of 300. As one of my neighbors said, "Wow. You should be falling down dead right here." I want to rail for a moment about the unfairness of it all: CGU eats mac and cheese and vienna sausages ona regular basis, while I eat salads every f**king day, so his cholesterol is maybe 160, and mine is almost twice that. Grrrr.
Anyhow, I'm trying to exercise more and take a new look at what I eat (maybe all that caesar dressing really negates the health benefits of that salad?). I may be grumpy when you see me next.
