2/3 of a post ...

Best metaphor for parenthood ever:

“Having kids is like having someone randomly flicking you in the head, all day, every day. It isn’t painful, just a constant state of low-level annoyance. Little people constantly require attention or course correction or entertainment. It seems like they are always making it at least twice as difficult to get what I want done in an efficient and stress-free way.”

This -- this is EXACTLY what makes parenting stressful. The BG is awesome, and I love her to bits, and now and then I just have to say, "I need 10 minutes where I don't have to pay attention to anyone else." Playdates (which seemed like a great idea before I became a mom) are out of the question; the last thing I need is TWO people requiring my attention.
